SYDNEY, Thursday May 7, 2020: The Tax Institute has announced the appointment of Robyn Jacobson CTA FCA FCPA and registered tax agent as Senior Advocate.

The decision forms part of The Tax Institute's efforts to bolster advocacy to support members through the challenges faced as a profession, since the onset of COVID-19, while building on The Institute’s already significant level of tax technical expertise.

The Tax Institute’s CEO, Giles Hurst, said as Australia transitions to a new economic norm, helping members to manage the complexity inherent within new tax policy, and offering guidance and advocacy, particularly for SME members, is of paramount importance.

“Robyn’s appointment reinforces The Tax Institute’s commitment to strengthen the voice of the profession both now and into the future,” Hurst said. “Many will be familiar with Robyn as one of Australia’s senior leaders in tax learning and advocacy. She has been a consistent advocate for a better tax system and an unswerving champion for the individuals who make up our profession. Her constant desire to make a difference to the profession is more critical than ever as we all navigate this challenging economic environment.”

Harnessing nearly 30 years of experience as an active member of the tax community, Robyn is a key contributor to The Tax Institute’s committees and professional development events. Most recently, Robyn participated in the engaging Tax Reform Q&A panel hosted by Tony Jones at The Tax Summit 2020. Robyn’s representation and impact spans more broadly across the accounting and finance communities, and she was recognised at the Women in Finance Awards 2019 as Thought Leader of the Year. She was also named in the global Top 50 Women in Accounting 2019.

“I anticipate Robyn will begin adding immediate value to our members through a range of exciting new content initiatives,” Hurst said. “Importantly, we will be asking Robyn to channel a significant amount of her immediate energy to help our members support their clients and keep their businesses operating amidst the current challenges.”

Speaking of her appointment, Robyn said it’s an honour to be appointed as Senior Advocate of The Tax Institute, an organisation that she has respected, admired and worked with for many years.

"We have a wonderful opportunity to work tirelessly on behalf of our members, further enhance our advocacy efforts and support the tax and accounting profession with our continued engagement with external stakeholders, legal and regulatory bodies and the wider tax community," she said. “I am excited about this newly created role and look forward to bringing my energy, enthusiasm and commitment to support The Tax Institute with member engagement.”

The appointment is the first of two major announcements by The Tax Institute. Robyn will commence her position on Monday May 11, 2020.
